Equipment for jungle treks

You are in a tropical rainforest!
Expect excessive sweating, a high level of humidity and refreshing rainfall.
Very light clothing and a sun cap are sufficient, spare clothing is a must.
Congolese mores are different from Western ones. Don't be dressed offensively, you are not at the beach.
Our employees are happy to help you with useful tips regarding suitable dress and code of conduct.

At sunrise and sunset we recommend long sleeves and trouser legs to protect against the sometimes annoying 'fourous' (tiny insects that can cause temporary itching on arms and legs).
A body oil or ointment can also have a preventive effect. Fourou-bites are unpleasant, but harmless.
Thanks to the cooler microclimate on the mountain peaks in the biosphere, mosquitoes are extremely rare. All rooms at the inn have mosquito windows and nets.

For short trips near the inn, i.e. visits to the village and the surrounding gold mines, a light walking shoe that is resistant to moisture and water is sufficient.
The main requirement is that the footwear has a non-slip sole.
For longer duration treks we recommend sturdy, yet airy walking shoes, which are also resistant to mud and water.
The most recommended shoe is the 'Pataugas' or 'jungle boot' (http://www.chaussure-hommes.com)/
Heavy mountain boots have the disadvantage of a longer drying time.
A second pair of shoes, dry stockings, as well as sandals or light slippers are highly recommended, as the risk of wet feet is very high.

The inn has a laundry service and an in-house pharmacy, as well as a first aid kit during excursions.
In addition, we have a close partnership with the well-equipped dispensary of the religious community 'Saint-Paul de Chartres' in M'Vouti.

We are at your service for further information and advice.
